Experience the height of the Tang Dynasty! From ritual music, Han dynasty folk songs, to music and dance of the Western Regions, Acrobatic Spectacle of Ancient Tang brings together highlights from different ethnic cultures. It takes you on a journey to more than a thousand years ago to meet Princess Wanchun, the daughter of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, who was steeped in music and dance, studying with the master Xie Aman. At the birthday banquet of the Emperor attended by foreign ambassadors, you'll be treated to an array of acrobatic spectacles, such as flag spinning, plate spinning, bowls kicking on unicycles, cycling on an umbrella and so on. Princess Wanchun married Yang Fei, an official from the Imperial Diplomatic Bureau, with whom she exchanged views on art. She founded a 'children's acrobatic class' to teach them the various Chinese acrobatic skills. This performance will bring a spellbinding acrobatic spectacle to the Hong Kong audience.

With the theme of 'passing on an intangible cultural heritage of fun through the diabolo', this workshop offers participants an immersive experience in Chinese traditional culture.
The instructor will introduce the cultural background of Chinese acrobatics by tracing its development from the ancient baixi (literally ‘a hundred forms of entertainment’) to performing arts of today and demonstrate diabolo techniques. Participants will also practise basic diabolo techniques under the instructor’s guidance, from holding the sticks and winding the string to simple shaking motions to accelerate the spinning spool.
