This is the story of a grown man who leads a woolly, groggy life and only comes alive when he recalls his childhood days.
With his head spinning from his workload, big fat guy Kit longs to return to his childhood where memories far better than his current life abound. The exquisite visuals of the pop-up book, the vivid narrative of the storyteller, the agile body of the dancer and the mischievous playing of the musician come together to form scene after scene that recreate Kit’s wonderful memories as well as his seamless entrance into his world of imagination.
The Good．Old．Days is the 10th Pop-up Book Theatre production of paper artist and stage lighting designer Lau Ming-hang. Combining paper and light-and-shadow art, the show transforms a fantasy into an exquisite pop-up book and paper figures, projecting on the theatre stage page after page of a magical, nostalgic story.
The running time of each performance is approximately 45 minutes without intermission.
The Pop-up Book Theatre is a unique art combining paper art, shadow plays and storytelling. Enhanced by light and shadow, simple paper can be transformed into theatre of wonders. In this workshop, you will learn to create a 3D pop-up book to illustrate your own story.
The 90-minute workshop is suitable for participants aged 3 or above. Children must be accompanied by adults. Each pair of participants (1 adult and 1 child) would receive one set of material.
Also known as “SunFool”, Lau is a lighting design and a pop-up paper arts designer. He has directed and created several works of pop-up book theatre, including Mr. Windy Nobody, Am I Crying, Ordinary Living, Mr. HALF Dwells, Big Nose and Little Ding and Dance Me to the Trees. Lau has designed lighting for many Hong Kong and overseas performance groups, and has received multiple nominations for Best Lighting Design at the Hong Kong Drama Awards.
