Special Programme for 'Bruce Lee: a Timeless Classic' exhibition
The Kid (1950) Film Screening and Post-Screening Talk
Bruce Lee started his acting career back in 1948 with acclaimed performance in The Kid (1950) and In the Face of Demolition (1953). Bruce played a delinquent orphan in the The Kid pairing up with the more seasoned actor Yee Chau-shui creating an interesting contrast between the youth and the experienced. The film is noteworthy for its portrayal of innocence, demonstrating that even in a harsh and dangerous world, kindness can exist. An in-depth discussion on the film's casting, plot and historical background will be hosted by invited speakers Alice Fung and Sam Ho after the screening to share their stories and views on the filmmaking techniques of the 1950s, Bruce Lee's early performance on screen as well as the social and cultural context of postwar Hong Kong.

Our Sister Hedy (1957) Film Screening and Post-Screening Talk
Our Sister Hedy explores the lives and loves of four sisters with widely different personalities whose paths entwine and diverge. The director, Doe Ching, skilfully uses fashion as the visual language to portray vividly the many different looks and characters of modern women in urban setting. An in-depth discussion on the film's casting, plot and historical background will be hosted by invited speakers after the screening to shed lights on the social and cultural context of the time, allowing the audience to get a better understanding and appreciation of costume and styling in film production.

The Ace—The Sam Hui Legacy
Aces Go Places (1982) Film Screening and Post-Screening Talk
The comedy series Aces Go Places, the masterpiece produced by Cinema City Co. Ltd., tells the adventure of the best partner - King Kong played by Sam Hui and the bald detective played by Karl Maka. The revenue exceeded HK$27 million, breaking the box office record of Hong Kong movies of the time. An in-depth discussion on the film's plot, production and audience responses, etc. will be hosted by invited speakers after the screening, allowing the audiences to have a better understanding of the development of action comedies in Hong Kong film industry in the 1980s.

Swordsman (1990) Film Screening and Post-Screening Talk
This film is adapted from one of Jin Yong's martial arts classic novels. It tells the story of a young swordsman, Linghu Chong, played by Sam Hui, who found himself caught in a world of intrigue and adventure in search of a long gone martial arts manual dating back to the Ming Dynasty. The film won multiple awards at the 27th Golden Horse Awards and the 10th Hong Kong Film Awards. An in-depth discussion exploring the film's creative concept, martial arts design and the soundtracks among other aspects, will be hosted by invited speakers after the screening, allowing the audience to have a better understanding of the trends and development of Hong Kong martial arts films.

The Touch of Gold - Jin Yong & Hong Kong Cinema
The Peerless Beauty (1953) Film Screening and Post-Screening Talk
To commemorate the 99th anniversary of Jin Yong's birth, a special screening of The Peerless Beauty (1953) and a post-screening talk will be held in the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The script of this film was written by Jin Yong alias Lin Huan adapting from the story of Yu (Hsia Moon) from Zhao state, who fled the war to Wei State where she met Lord Xinling (Ping Fan). She sacrificed herself to become a concubine of the Wei Emperor (Jiang Ming) in order to save her home country. An in-depth discussion on Jin Yong's literary style will be hosted by the renowned film critic after the screening.

Hong Kong Heritage Museum x Hong Kong Film Archive "Hong Kong Pop 60+" Film Screening and Post-Screening Talk Series
A recent collaboration is with the Hong Kong Heritage Museum to celebrate the opening of its permanent exhibition "Hong Kong Pop 60+". Four classic Hong Kong films will be shown, together with post-screening talks by experts of film and Hong Kong culture. HKFA will continue to offer "To Go" service of films, programmed to foster better understanding of Hong Kong cinematic history and local culture through different packages of movie magic.
