Not only did writer Chan Man-keung base this youth drama on true events, director Lawrence Ah Mon also recruited real-life juvenile delinquents as actors. Filmed in the style of a realist docudrama, the film brings the audience directly into the dark world of youth gangs through the eyes of two brothers (Ricky Hi and Wong Chung-cheun). We see the teenagers spend their day stealing, brawling with other gangs and even falling in love as they walk down that inevitable path of self-destruction. At the same time, the film avoids teaching lessons, laying out the incidents without putting any judgments on its characters. Instead, it is up to the audience to witness the world as it was and reflect on their own.
