Long before Infernal Affairs, films like Man on the Brink (1981) and this action drama from writer Wong Jing and director Clarence Fok have been showing us the struggles of undercover cops and the price of power in the crime world. Louis Koo stars as an undercover cop assign to keep an eye on triad boss Fei Long (Andy Lau), who is actually trying to leave the crime world and go straight. However, as the genre has taught us for decades, it’s always easier to go in than to get out. Wong’s script follows every rule in the gangster genre rulebook, but it’s also an intricate and riveting story that makes this a solid entry in the genre.
