A suitably sleazy slice of 70s exploitation, Lam Kwok-cheung casts Jason Pai Piao (10 Tigers of Shaolin, Bloody Parrot) as ambitious cop Damon, who is sent undercover into Kowloon's gang-ridden underworld. Given little support from his superiors, and strict instructions to conceal his true identity from his fellow officers, Damon feels increasingly at home in Cheung Chok-chow's Tong society and quickly ascends to the rank of "426", as right-hand man to Brother Shing. The undercover cop drama is as old as the gangster genre itself, but the film is less concerned with Damon's struggle to conceal his true identity, and plays out like a more conventional tale of gang warfare and personal ambition. Only in the final act does Damon finally have to choose between a life of crime and upholding the law. There is plenty of outrageous humour, salacious nudity, and moments of shocking violence throughout. Primarily, however, Ironside 426 is a platform for a number of bloody gang fights, pitting Pai against Cheung Kei Ying's brilliantly monickered Satan Hong and his Black Dragon gang.
