David Lai’s daring neorealist drama brought the hot topic of teenage prostitution to the big screen, creating a stir in Hong Kong during its release in 1982. Made in the style of documentary with mostly non-professional actors, the film follows a group of rebellious teenage girls falling into a life of dangerous vices. Lai enhanced the film’s sense of realism by using handheld camerawork, natural lighting and live sound recording, bringing us closer than ever to the lives of Hong Kong’s troubled teenagers. Star Becky Lam became the youngest winner of the Best Actress award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her daring performance as one of the fallen girls.
