An invaluable opportunity to revisit the New Age classics of Kitaro in a Silk Road reunion

The name of Kitaro is a cultural synonym for the Silk Road and New Age music. His atmospheric works and multi-textured live performances create a harmonic exchange between Nature, heaven and earth that ushers audiences on a serene sonic journey. His signature music blends synthesisers with Taiko drums, flute, harp and sitar, among other instruments, invoking a realm of spirituality and imagination without boundaries.

In 1980, Kitaro's phenomenal soundtrack for Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK)'s documentary series Silk Road brought him international attention. His theme song for Hong Kong movie Homecoming, sung by Anita Mui, has become part of local audiences' collective memory. The 2007 score for West Lake Impression, a large-scale modern opera by Chinese film director Zhang Yimou, is another exceptional work.

Outside Asia, the musical maestro also has legions of fans. His 1987 Grammy-nominated record The Light of the Spirit, a collaboration with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, exceeded two million sales in the US alone. In 1994, his ethereal accompaniment to Oliver Stone's film, Heaven and Earth, won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score. In 2000, Thinking of You, was honoured with a Grammy for Best New Age Album.

For his Hong Kong appearance, Kitaro will be accompanied by five top musicians in a performance encompassing Silk Road-themed classics and newer works. The concert also features the world première of Kitaro's latest masterpiece, specially composed for this festival. A much-anticipated show.
