Redeveloped from the old Government Stadium, the new Hong Kong Stadium was re-opened in March 1994. With a maximum seating capacity of 40000, the Stadium is at present the largest outdoor multi-purpose recreation and sports venue in Hong Kong.
It has been designed and well-equipped for hosting a wide range of sporting, religious and community events.
The Stadium management takes pride in providing a great venue for a variety of significant and successful events, which include the annual Rugby Sevens, Lunar New Year soccer tournaments, soccer exhibition matches, reunification celebration events, charity events such as the Walk for Millions, as well as a number of community and religious events.
So Kon Po Recreation Ground, a supporting venue to the Stadium, is designated for hiring by organisations for sports competitions and training only.
