Beijing had hosted the 29th Olympic Games and the 13th Paralympic Games (the Games) in August and September 2008 respectively, and Hong Kong had co-hosted the Equestrian Events. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) invite the co-host cities to set up Olympic and Paralympic Live Sites at centrally located outdoor venues during the Games to broadcast the competition events of the Games live on giant screens and provide the public with free cultural and entertainment programmes. The objectives of setting up the Live Sites were to enhance the enthusiastic and pleasant Olympic atmosphere, to promote the Olympic spirit and culture, and to attract active public participation.
