The 2nd Hong Kong Games – Swimming Elite Athletes’ Demonstration and Exchange Highlights
The 2nd Hong Kong Games (HKG) - Swimming Elite Athletes' Demonstration and Exchange was held on 25 April 2009 (Saturday) smoothly. The event was attended by athletes from the districts that would take part in the swimming competition of the 2nd HKG and it drew over 300 spectators.
Sports trainer, Yeung Kwan-kin of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was invited to give talks on prevention and curing of injuries so as to beef up the related knowledge of the athletes. The athletes then took an active part in the exchange session and shared with participants fun and knowledge of the sport.
Led by coaches of the Hong Kong team, Fan Wai-tim and Fu Mui, 10 swimming athletes: Tsai Hiu-wai, Lau Yin-yan, Sze Hang-yu, Chan Yu-ning, Lum Ching-tat, Yan Ho-chun, Carmen Nam, Au Hoi-shun, Tang Wing-yung and Wong Kai-wai, demonstrated in front of the participants butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and free style as well as training methods in take-off and turning. The demonstration broadened the athletes’ horizon and enhanced their interest in swimming, thereby fulfilling the objective of the demonstration and exchange.
After rounds of demonstrations, the 18 districts send representatives to form teams with the elite athletes to take part in 4 x 50 metres friendly match, freestyle. The close match brought the demonstration and exchange to a climax and Yau Tsim Mong eventually emerged as winner. At the end, the coaches, elite athletes and regional athletes posed together for photos to commemorate this unforgettable moment.
