The 2nd Hong Kong Games – Basketball Elite Athletes’ Demonstration and Exchange Highlights

The 2nd Hong Kong Games (HKG) - Basketball Elite Athletes' Demonstration and Exchange was held at Osman Ramju Sadick Memorial Sports Centre in the afternoon of 11 April 2009 (Saturday). The event was attended by athletes from the districts that would take part in the basketball competition of the 2nd HKG and it drew some 60 spectators. Led by CHU Yiu-ming, a coach of Hong Kong Basketball Team from the Hong Kong Basketball Association, members of the Hong Kong Basketball Team (HKBT) including TAM Wai-yeung, POON Chi-ho, LI Wai-lun, LAU Chi-kin, LO Yi-ting, FONG Shing-yee, LI Kim-wong, CHENG Kam-hing, CHAN Yik-lun and WONG Chun-wai demonstrated their basketball skills as well as the defensive and offensive strategies. It was a real eye-opener for the athletes. The HKBT players also pitted their skills against the participants in 3-on-3 friendly matches. During the Exchange Session, many athletes seized the opportunity to have genuine chat with the HKBT, so that they could know more about the elite players’ experience of participating in competitions.

In order to enrich the athletes’ knowledge about sports training, the Organiser specially invited Dr LAM Wing-kai, sports trainer of Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to give a talk on the training programme devised for basketball players, physical fitness training drills tailor-made for individuals, proper warm-up postures and curing of injuries etc. Fun and knowledge about sports were shared in a refreshing atmosphere among the participants, who benefited greatly from the event.

Finally, the event reached a climax when athletes from the 18 districts took part in a “2-Ball Skill Challenge”, with YEUNG Lai-wing and CHIU Kwok-hung of Tsuen Wan District emerging as the winning team. All participants posed together for photos to commemorate this unforgettable moment.
