The 2nd Hong Kong Games – Table Tennis Elite Athletes’ Demonstration and Exchange Highlights
The "Elite Athletes' Demonstration and Exchange" in table tennis of the 2nd Hong Kong Games was held smoothly on March 29 (Sunday) 2009. The event was attended by athletes from the 18 districts who will take part in the table tennis competitions of the 2nd Hong Kong Games and it drew some 120 spectators. To enhance the sport training knowledge of athletes, the event began with sports trainer, YEUNG Kwan-kin of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, lecturing on proper sport postures and prevention and curing of injuries. Fun and knowledge of the sport were shared in a refreshing atmosphere in the session with the participating athletes taking active part in a demonstration.
In addition, coach of Hong Kong team, CHAN Kong-wah, led two elite athletes, JIANG Tian-yi and TANG Peng, in introducing and demonstrating table tennis skills, including forehand drive, backhand push, service and competition skills and strategies. Participants seized this opportunity to ask questions, being eager to learn more about table tennis.
After rounds of demonstrations, the athletes from the 18 districts sent representatives to take part in matches, divided into men’s and women’s. The closeness of the matches caused the air of both tension and excitement to erupt. District athletes and elite athletes exchanged skills and shared the fun during the matches.
HUNG Wah-tak (Kowloon City District) and Ms LAU May-ling (Eastern District) emerged victorious from the men’s and women’s categories respectively. After the matches, coach, lecturer, umpire, elite athletes and district athletes posed together for photos to commemorate this happy moment.
