Objectives: To promote the traditional event by integrating modern techniques of climbing so that the Bun Scrambling Event can be held in an orderly and safe manner.

Selection of Finalists for the Bun Scrambling Competition

  • Applicants who have completed the training on bun tower climbing can take part in the "Selection of Finalists for the Bun Scrambling Competition".
  • Participants who reach the designated height of the bun tower and hit the signal object successfully within the shortest time will be selected.
  • The first nine male participants and the first three female participants will be qualified to enter the "Bun Scrambling Competition".

  • Prizes will be awarded to the champion and the first and second runners-up in the Men's Team and to the champion in the Women's Team.
  • The finalists who grab the largest numbers of buns with the highest scores within the specified time and area will be the winners.  In case of a tie, the positions of the participants will be determined by their scores in the selection of finalists.

Location: Soccer pitch of Pak Tai Temple Playground, Cheung Chau

Eligibility:

  1. Healthy and physically fit persons aged 18 or above.
  2. Applicants who live, work or study in Cheung Chau will be accorded priority in balloting.  They should enclose copies of valid documentary proof bearing their names when submitting their enrolment forms.

Enrolment Method:

  1. Completed enrolment forms should be returned to the Islands District Leisure Services Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (Address: Room 622, 6/Floor, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong; Tel. No.: 2852 3220) by hand, by fax (Fax No.: 2854 3949) or by post (as indicated by postmark) on or before 16 April 2010 (Friday).
  2. The identity documents (originals or photocopies) of the applicants should be produced for verification and copies of valid documentary proof of living, working or studying in Cheung Chau (only applicable to applicants who enrol in the Competition with priority in the capacity of person living, working or studying in Cheung Chau) should be enclosed when submitting the enrolment forms in person. Copies of identity documents and valid documentary proof of living, working or studying in Cheung Chau (only applicable to applicants who enrol in the Competition with priority in the capacity of person living, working or studying in Cheung Chau) should be attached when submitting the enrolment forms by fax or by post. The personal data provided by you will only be used for the purposes of enrolment, compilation of statistics, future contact and promotion relating to this activity. Except for the staff authorised by the Organisers, no one will be given access to your personal data. The personal data provided by you will be destroyed after the event. For submission of enrolment forms by post, the words "Bun Scrambling Competition" should be marked on the front of the envelope.
  3. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, places will be drawn by ballot, the number of which is equal to the quota. Successful applicants will be notified in writing to attend the training. Unsuccessful applicants will not receive any notification.
  4. All the particulars stated in the enrolment forms must be true and complete in details. Any misrepresentation on the part of a participant will lead to disqualification and cancellation of all his/her scores in the Competition. The participant's position will be filled by the next runner-up.

Date and Place of Ballot:

The ballot will be held at Room 1414, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central at 3:00 pm on 21 April 2010 (Wednesday). Members of the public are welcome to attend the ballot.

Award:

Trophies will be awarded to the champion and the first and second runners-up in the Men's Team, and to the champion in the Women's Team.

Adjudication:

The panel of judges will compose of members of the Organisers and the Hong Kong Mountaineering Union.

Rules:

Please refer to the Notes to Participants of the "Bun Scrambling Competition".

Appeal:

No appeal will be allowed and the decision of the judges shall be final.
