For the Department and Staff

  • The Department's bird-keeping staff have been strictly following the departmental guidelines on contact with birds during the course of work and to enhance their personal hygiene.

  • Aviary staff and staff working in the Yuen Po Street Bird Garden, including contractors' staff, had been arranged to receive influenza vaccines between November and December, 2006.

  • All cleansing staff and contractors have been wearing proper protective gear/clothing when handling bird droppings left on the ground. They have also been instructed not to use high pressure jets for clearing bird droppings left on the ground.

  • A set of comprehensive guidelines has been issued to the staff for proper handling dead birds found at any LCSD venue. This is to ensure both the personal hygiene of the staff and the environmental cleanliness.

  • The Department will continue to reinforce the cleansing work at its venues so as to maintain the environmental hygiene.
