and Behaviour |
The head is smooth and
olive green in colour. The carapace
is reddish brown, highly domed with
a prominent light yellow vertebral keel
at the centre. Each scute is well marked
with concentric rings. The dark brown
plastron has a yellow band along the
outer margin, for which the species
earns its common name. The turtles live
in groups, mainly active at night and
in early morning. They rest during daytime
in ground holes and the woodland. Breeding
season lasts from May to September and
a clutch comprises three to seven eggs. |
