Callosciurus prevostii
Class Mammalia

Order Rodentia

Distribution Southeast Asia such as Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo.

Habitat Lowland and montane forest.

Behaviour Arboreal. Diurnal. Agile and excellent at climbing and jumping. Their toes, with sharp claws, are well adapted for clinging to tree trunks. The tail serves as a balance and a rudder when running and jumping. They squat to feed, holding the food between their front paws. They live in tree hollows. Females will construct nests with leaves and twigs high up in tree branches shortly before giving birth to avoid the ground predators. Two to four young are born at a litter. They are naked at birth and will become mature in 18 months.

Diet Seeds, nuts, fruit, buds, flowers and sometimes insects and bird's eggs.
