| Behaviour |
The world's third largest cat, after the tiger and lion. Carnivorous. Solitary except when mating. Compact and powerfully built, Jaguars hunt by stealth and ambush. They climb well and are excellent swimmers. One to four young are born after a gestation period of 93 to 105 days. Cubs remain with their mother for two years. Melanistic individuals occur, but not as commonly as in leopards. |
