It aims to provide students with updated information on sports. The Sport Education Programme includes five categories of activities:
- Sport Demonstration
Veteran coaches assigned by the relevant NSAs will visit schools to introduce to students the basic skills and rules of sports as well as to give demonstrations. Students will be invited to join the play-in sessions for fun.
- Guided Tours to Sports Venues
Visits to major sports facilities will be arranged for students to let them have a better understanding of the operation and management of the sports venues. These facilities include the Hong Kong Stadium, the Tuen Mun Recreation and Sports Centre and the Water Sports Centres under the LCSD, and the Sha Tin Rowing Centre managed by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association.
- Sport Exhibitions and Sport Talks
The LCSD, the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education of the CUHK and the Department of Physical Education of the HKBU have collaborated in producing a set of display panels on sports and a series of talks, covering eight topics including “Benefits of Sports”, “Sports and Nutrition”, “Sports and Health”, “Sports and Injury”, “Sports and Stress Management”, “Sports and Multiple Intelligence Development”, “Sports and Self-efficacy” and “Sports and Weight Management”. These talks, to be hosted by students from the two universities, will be held at primary and secondary schools for students to have a better understanding of the benefits of regular exercise. Schools participating in the talks will be given a VCD on the selected topic as a souvenir from the LCSD after the talk.
- Guided Tour Projects for Major Events
The Programmes aim to further enhance students’ knowledge of and interest in various sports. The guided tours arranged for students are major international competitions, special performances, interviews with visiting teams and outstanding athletes from the Mainland. Students can watch high-level matches, pre-match training and demonstrations under the guidance of professional coaches, thereby enhancing their knowledge and interest in individual sports as well as appreciation power in watching sports events.
- Olympism and 2009 East Asian Games (EAG)
To be well prepared for the hosting of the EAG in Hong Kong in 2009, the LCSD and the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) have collaborated in providing a wide range of educational activities, including talks, seminars and exhibitions, to promote and disseminate the Olympic spirit among students.
