Aim

The 'Nanyang Commercial Bank' Student Drawing Competition of Hong Kong Flower Show 2005 will feature students' impressive drawings of exquisite flowers, rare plants and unique garden displays in the showground with a view to enhancing their awareness of conserving plants and the natural environment.

Theme

Entry drawings should be associated with "Hong Kong Flower Show 2005". Participants may depict any flowers or garden displays in the showground by means of sketching or other forms of drawing and painting.

Category

The Competition will be conducted in four categories, they are:
A. Junior Section in Primary School (Primary One to Primary Three)
B. Senior Section in Primary School (Primary Four to Primary Six)
C. Junior Section in Secondary School (Form One to Form Three)
D. Senior Section in Secondary School (Form Four to Form Seven)

Method of Entry

1.   In view of limited space of the showground at Victoria Park, the total number of participants will be restricted to 2 000, hence the number of participants from each school should not exceed 10. In case of over-subscription, places will be allocated to participating schools on the basis of the order of their applications. The organizer will notify participating schools, in writing, of the results of allocation of places on or before 25 February 2005.
2.   Application forms should be filled in by the principals of the participating schools. Completed application forms should be sent to the "Chairperson of Fringe Activities Sub-committee, Hong Kong Flower Show 2005" at ¡iShroff Office, Kwun Chung Sports Centre, 6/F, Kwun Chung Municipal Services Building, 17 Bowring Street, Jordan, Kowloon¡jon or before 21 January 2005 (Friday).

Rules of Competition and Notes for Participants

1.   Applicants should register at the Reception Counter of the Drawing Competition at the entrance of Victoria Park at Hing Fat Street between 8:00 am and 9:30 am on 11 March 2005 (Friday). Participants will be given a permit to gain access to the showground for the Competition.
2.   Participating schools should assign one or two teachers to accompany their students to the showground for the Competition.
3.   Participants should draw inside the showground at Victoria Park and avoid causing any obstruction to visitors as far as possible.
4.   The organiser will provide each participant with a piece of drawing paper (292mm ¡Ñ 380mm). Participants should bring their own painting paraphernalia and materials such as drawing boards, pencils, painting brushes, watercolour and pastel.
5.   Participants must use the drawing paper provided by the organiser and may use whatever colouring materials they desire.
6.   Participants must submit their entries to the Reception Counter of the Drawing Competition by 12:00 noon on the same day.
7.   Each participant can only submit one entry.

Adjudication

Adjudication will be conducted by a judging panel. The decision of the judging panel is final and participants cannot raise any objection.

Handling of the Entries and Intellectual Property

1.   All entries will be handled by the organiser and will not be returned.
2.   The intellectual property of the entries is owned by the participants. The organizer, however, has the right to publish, exhibit, print or distribute the winning entries through any media, and to promote and publicize the Flower Show (including activities to be held after the Show) by using the names of the winners.

Prizes

1.   Winner will receive trophy or certificate and Nanyang Commercial Bank H.K. Dollar Savings Account Passbook. The prizes of each Section are as follows:
   

Champion (One) -

One trophy, one certificate and a savings account
passbook of $1,000

1st runner-up (One) -

One trophy, one certificate and a savings account
passbook of $700

2nd runner-up (One) -

One trophy, one certificate and a savings account
passbook of $500

Highly commended
(Ten)

Each will receive one certificate and a savings a

Certificate of merit
(Thirty)

Each will receive one certificate and a savings
account passbook of $100

 
2.   There will be an overall winner for the Primary School Section and another for the Secondary School Section. Each overall winner will be granted a scholarship of $1,500.
 
3.   The prize presentation ceremony will be held at the Flower Show at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay Hong Kong at 10:30 a.m. on 19 March 2005 (Saturday).
 
 
4.   Each participant will receive a souvenir pack.

Exhibition of Winning Entries

Winning entries of champion, 1st and 2nd runner-up and those highly commended will be exhibited at the showground at Victoria Park from 12 to 20 March 2005. All winning entries will be exhibited for public viewing at the Kowloon Park Arcade from 23 March to 10 April 2005. Thereafter, they will be uploaded to the LCSD website (www.lcsd.gov.hk) from May to June 2005.

Inclement Weather Arrangement

If Strong Wind Signal No. 3 or above, Black or Red Rainstorm Warning Signal is hoisted/issued by the Hong Kong Observatory on the day of the Competition, the Hong Kong Flower Show Committee will make announcement of the cancellation of the activity through the radio at 6:30 a.m. that day.
