The Climbing Carnival of the 2014 Bun Carnival was held at the soccer pitch, Pak Tai Temple Playground, Cheung Chau today (April 27), with a lot of visitors having fun at the "Bun Tower Climbing Play-in" session.

During the climbing session, participants climbed the 14-metre-tall bun tower which will be used for the Bun Scrambling Competition to be held in the late evening of May 6.

Besides, eight teams from local tertiary institutions, government departments, public utilities and commercial and industrial organisations also joined the invitation relays in today's carnival. The championship went to the team from Hong Kong Fire Services Department.

Festival-goers also enjoyed the exhibition on bun carnivals, games stalls, handicrafts, variety shows as well as the displays of winning works from the student colouring and drawing competitions. They also made wishes on the "Wishing Bun Tower" erected at the venue and looked forward to their realisation.

Members of the public also learned more about the technical and safety measures of bun tower climbing during the bun tower climbing and briefing by the China Hong Kong Mountaineering and Climbing Union.

Twelve finalists comprising nine men and three women will compete for individual awards and the "Full Pockets of Lucky Buns" award in the Bun Scrambling Competition, the grand finale of the 2014 Bun Carnival, to be held from 11.30pm on May 6 to 12.25am on May 7 at the soccer pitch, Pak Tai Temple Playground, Cheung Chau.

This is the 10th anniversary of the Bun Carnival since its revival in 2005. Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the 2014 Bun Carnival is presented with the support of the Cheung Chau Wai Chiu County Association Limited, the Cheung Chau Rural Committee, the Islands District Office and the China Hong Kong Mountaineering and Climbing Union, and is sponsored by Lukfook Jewellery, Watsons Water and the Islands District Council.
