The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is holding the New Territories West Lunar New Year Lantern Carnival at Tin Shui Wai Park and Ginza Square tonight (February 16). The event features spectacular lantern displays and a diverse entertainment programme to celebrate the Spring Lantern Festival.

Tin Shui Wai Park has been decorated with colourful lantern installations, creating a romantic and festive backdrop for photo-taking. The highlight is a sea of peach blossom and butterfly lanterns at the fountain plaza, in addition to lanterns depicting the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and a 7-metre-high revolving lantern. The lantern installations will be open to the public until February 23.

Carnival-goers are also enjoying performances including spectacular folk songs and dances, instrumental performances and Chinese operatic songs by the Anhui Arts Troupe, as well as performances by youth organisations and more. Other activities such as Chinese folk crafts demonstrations, a workshop, a wish-making corner, a lantern quiz and fortune-telling are also being well received.

In addition to the lantern carnivals, the current thematic lantern display "Roaming in Love" will continue at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Piazza until March 2. The display presents the wedding customs of different countries. "Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage - Exhibition on Craftsmanship of Lantern Making" is also running at the HKCC Piazza until February 23. The display, crafted by local masters, features three sets of unicorns and a 3-metre-high hexagonal-shaped lantern, wishing good luck and great fortune to every visitor.
