The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the Sai Kung District Sand Sculpture Competition cum Sand Sculpture Exchange Programme on November 10 (Sunday) at Clear Water Bay Second Beach to raise public interest and creativity in sand sculpting activities. The competition is now open for application until October 31.
The sand sculpture competition is divided into four competition groups, namely the open division, the youth division, the family division and the disabled division. The champion, first runner-up and second runner-up in each division as well as the overall champion will receive a trophy. To encourage public participation, there will also be six merit prizes to reward competitors who have not won any prizes in this competition during the period from 2011 to 2013.
The overall champion team will have the opportunity to be invited to participate in the Hong Kong - Kagoshima Sand Sculpture Exchange Programme - Hong Kong Team Selection Competition to compete for the honour of representing Hong Kong in the Hong Kong - Kagoshima Sand Sculpture Exchange Programme to be held in Japan next year.
Members of the public who are interested in the sand sculpture competition should apply without further delay. During the competition day, a delegation team from Hioki City, Kagoshima, Japan, will also conduct a sand sculpture demonstration. Other exciting programmes will include cheerleading performances, beach cleaning activities, a sand sculpture play corner and parent-children beach ultimate games. Shuttle bus services will be provided to assist the public to go to the beach starting from 9.45am at Yuk Nga Lane (near Radiant Towers), Tseung Kwan O, on the event day. Members of the public are welcome to come and spend an enjoyable Sunday with their families and friends.
