A cappella concerts "Do You Sing? Dare to Sing!" to present songs about harmony and love
**************************************************

Local ensemble Orange A Cappella will collaborate with some 20 young people in staging the concerts "Do You Sing? Dare to Sing!" in August. They will perform a wide-ranging repertoire of original songs and pop songs about harmony and love, presenting an inspiring new perspective on music and life.

"Do You Sing? Dare to Sing!" is one of the programmes of the large-scale summer festival International Arts Carnival's New Generation Series. The show will run from August 9 to 11 at the Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre Theatre.

A cappella is vocal music unaccompanied by instruments. Each singer is not only responsible for one part of the music but also connected to others. Working together as an ensemble, a cappella performers traverse a remarkable sonic landscape of rhythm, tone and timbre. With an open mind to listening and collaboration, each member presents a unique voice to fit into the whole to produce beautifully rich harmonies.

The show is directed by Octavian Chan and co-written by Chan, Music Director JoJo Pang and the members of Orange A Cappella. Eli Fung is the vocal coach and Rick Cheung is the choreographer. Featuring the themes of communication and love, the concert is a celebration of youth and the love for music and expresses the message of daring to sing. A wide repertoire of pop songs will be showcased, including Lady Gaga's "Born This Way", "Hold My Hand" by Michael Jackson and Jacky Cheung's "Love is Eternal".

"Do You Sing? Dare to Sing!" will be staged at 7.30pm on August 9 and 10 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on August 11 (Sunday) at the Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre Theatre, with tickets priced at $180 and $120. The shows will be conducted in Cantonese.

Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Booking discounts of up to 20 per cent are available for full-price performing arts and film programmes.

The International Arts Carnival, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is one of the events under the "Vibrant Hong Kong" theme of the "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign. Programme brochures are available at URBTIX outlets or at the carnival website www.hkiac.gov.hk .
