The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the "Mahler Forum with the Mahlered Celebrities" in December, with the Chairperson of the Department of Music, the University of Hong Kong, Dr Chan Hing-yan, as the moderator. The forum is being organised to mark the centenary of the great composer's death.
Gustav Mahler continues to exert a fascination for many people today. It is not only the melody, structure or orchestration of the music that attracts them but the whole world revealed in it.
Speakers participating in the forum will include conductor Professor Gabriel Leung, music critic and writer Professor Leo Lee and pianist Nancy Loo. They will share their personal Mahler experiences, exchange their understanding of Mahler and discuss thoughts and inspirations that originated from the composer. The forum will offer Mahler addicts a chance to hear authoritative opinions and express their own views on a composer who has come to mean so much to the modern world.
"Mahler Forum with the Mahlered Celebrities", to be conducted in Cantonese, will be held at 3pm on December 10 (Saturday) at the Gallery, Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware. Tickets priced at $40 (free seating) are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking.
