Promising young musicians join YWCA Chinese Orchestra for concerts

The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra will collaborate with promising musicians for three concerts next month (March).

Under the baton of Chan Chiu-yin and Alfred Wong, the orchestra will perform "The Moon Represents My Heart", "Plus More", "Struggle" and a medley of themes from popular wuxia television series based on novels by Louis Cha and Gu Long. Many talented soloists will also perform in the concerts.

Founded in 1962, the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra is one of the oldest Chinese orchestras in Hong Kong. The orchestra has organised regular performances to introduce different styles of Chinese folk music to the public and to provide training and performing opportunities to local young musicians, many of whom have won prizes at various music competitions. In recent years, the orchestra has collaborated with an array of music virtuosos and the performances have received great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

"Concert by The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra" is the first programme of the "Family Fiesta" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The concerts will be held at 8pm on March 13 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall; 3pm on March 21 (Sunday) at the Theatre, Sheung Wan Civic Centre and 8pm on March 27 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $100 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group booking and "Family Fiesta Series" schemes. Please refer to the programme leaflet for details.

Other attractions of the series include "Far-out Physical Fun" by The Tweaksters (March 19-21), "International WOW Magic on Earth II" (March 20-21), "Letter's End" by Wolfe Bowart, Spoon Tree Productions (April 2-5), "Melodious Piano Moments Concert" by Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra (April 10-11), Concert by the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra (April 11, 17 and 24), "Seasons of the Sweet Gum" by Fantasy Puppet Theatre (April 16-18), "A Musical Zoo - A Percussion Concert" by Made in Hong Kong @ Four Gig Heads (April 24 and 28) and "The Magical Forest Concert" by Toy Magic Orchestra (May 1-2).
