2015 Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra Russia Tour

The Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra won wide acclaims at the International Music Festival EURASIA in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

As part of the Music Office’s International Youth Music Exchange Programme, 78 members of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra (HKYSO), led by the Chief Music Officer, Mr. Richie Lam, together with conductors, Mr. Ng Ka-ming, Mr. Pak Wing-heng and Dr. Joseph Kam, and guest violin soloist, Dr. Lu Xi, the Executive Council Member of Guangdong Violin Education Society, visited Russia and participated in the International Music Festival EURASIA in Yekaterinburg in October 2015.

The HKYSO staged three performances at Concert Hall of Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Ekaterinburg and Concert Hall in Alapayevsk, two of which were joint performances with the Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra. Besides performing in the concerts, the HKYSO also attended training sessions given by the Urals Mussorgsky State Conservatoire and visited cultural sites, such as the Tchaikovsky Estate – Museum, during the tour.

The Post-tour Concert of Russia Tour will be held on 28 Nov (Sat) 8pm at Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall. Programme highlights included “Overture for Orchestra” commissioned by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra; “Fire Torch Festival”, the finale from “Yunnan Tone Poem” which depicts ethnic Yunnan people celebrating their traditional festival; “The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto”, taken from an ancient Chinese love story; Tchaikovsky’s classic repertoire “Symphony No. 5 in E Minor”.
