2016 Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra Shanghai and Shenyang Tour

The Music Office Youth Chinese Orchestra won wide acclaims in Shanghai and Shenyang at the 2016 Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra Shanghai and Shenyang Tour.

As part of the Music Office’s International Youth Music Exchange Programme, the 80 members Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra (HKYCO), led by conductor and Senior Music Officer of the Chinese Section of the Music Office Tsui Ying-fai embarked a music exchange tour in Shanghai and Shenyang during Christmas last year.

The HKYCO staged their debut performance at the He Luting Concert Hall of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and presented a collaboration concert with Shenyang Conservatory of Music Northern National Traditional Orchestra at the Auditorium of Shenyang Conservatory of Music. Besides performing in the concerts, the HKYCO also participated in music exchange activities with Shanghai Student Art Ensemble Number One and Yucai Youth Chinese Orchestra from Northeast China. During the visit, the Orchestra showcased two concertos Ecstasy of Nature and In Remembrance of Yunnan, featuring Principal Suona and Principal Zhongruan of the Orchestra as soloists respectively. An array of contemporary repertoire includes Wang Danhong’s Cantonese Wujiatou and Orchestra “United We Go” Concerto, Spiraling Voice in the Mountains, a rendition based on the music of Taiwan Indigenous People, Loo Leung-fai’s Winter and Alfred Wong’s arrangement of Fire Torch Festival from Wang Xilin’s Yunnan Tone Poem.
