Shirley Cheng completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance at the University of Kansas in 2015 where her teacher was Dr. Michael Bauer. She received her Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in 2012. There she studied organ with Dr. Janette Fishell, improvisation and sacred music with Bruce Neswick, and choral conducting with Susan Swaney. She is recipient of Artistic Excellence Award and the Irving & Lena Lo Scholarship during the tenure of her studies at Indiana University. Her undergraduate studies were at Hong Kong Baptist University, where she was under the tutelage of Ms. Wong King-yu and attained a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance and Pedagogy.

Cheng has been the appointed instructor of organ for the Pipe Organ Education Series at Hong Kong Cultural Centre since 2008. She was named quarter-finalist for both the 2013 International Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition and for the 2014 American National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance. She was the finalist in both the Fort Wayne National Organ Playing Competition and the Poister National Organ Playing Competition in Syracuse, New York in 2014. Her solo performance has been broadcast on National Public Radio’s nationwide programme Pipedreams. From 2010 to 2014, she served as Director of Music and Organist for several United Churches of Christ in the United States. At present, Cheng serves as the Music Teacher at the St. Rose of Lima’s College; her upcoming project includes teaching Arts Ministry courses at various institutes and churches.

Sim Lam-chung / Baritone

Sim Lam-chung gained his Master degree in Music from The Hong Kong Chinese University, and his Bachelor degrees in History and Music from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He completed LTCL diploma in singing. He is now Music Tutor of Tsim Sha Tsui Swatow Christian Church, Conductor of Hong Kong Shue Yan University Christian Fellowship Choir, Leung Shek Chee College senior choir and Assistant Conductor of Musicall. He studied singing with Hui Yiu-sing, Caleb Woo Wing-ching, Jimmy Chan Fong-sheng and Rao Lan. He learnt conducting from Patrick Chiu, Sanson Lau Wing-sang, Esmond Lim and John Winzenburg.

Sim performed in nearly all HKBU vocal groups. He was band leader of HKBU Christian Band. In HKBU Choir, he performed Bach Cantata BWV 61 as a tenor and bass soloist. He also travelled with HKBU Cantoria to Czech, where the group was awarded a Gold Medal in the category for chamber choirs in 2010 Festival of Songs Olomouc. He travelled to Taiwan and Nanjing with HKBU Christian Choir in music interflow programme and performed as a soloist. As a frequent solo performer, he never stops his performance after his graduation. He performed his solo recital Eros, Philia, Agape with Miss Wong Cheuk-yee. He also performed several operas, including Heart of Coral presented by the Hong Kong Arts Festival, sang and act in concert Our Artistry of Voice organized by his music companions.

Free tickets are available at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Enquiries Counter (9am-9pm daily) from 27 Oct onwards. Each patron may get a maximum of 4 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Audiences aged 6 and above are welcome. Programme lasts around 40 minutes without intermission.
