Hwamei

Garrulax canorus

Hwamei Characteristics:
About 25 cm long. Gingery-brown with conspicuous eyering and white streak behind eye. Its Chinese name means “painted eyebrow”


Distribution:
Resident. Favours woodland and hillsides with thick scrub cover.

Habits:
Not shy but difficult to observe in undergrowth. Sometimes perches prominently when singing.Feeds mainly on insects and fruits. Breeding season from April to July. Large shallow nest constructed close to ground.
