The 7th National Intercity Games and the 12th National Winter Games

Hong Kong athletes competed in the 7th National Intercity Games (NIG) and the 12th National Winter Games (NWG), held respectively in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province from October 16 to 25, 2011 and Changchun, Jilin Province from January 3 to 13, 2012.

Badminton athlete Ng Ka-long represented the Hong Kong SAR at the torch relay of the 7th National Intercity Games.

A total of 217 athletes took part in 18 events of the 7th NIG, winning two gold, two silver and two bronze medals in cycling, badminton, athletics, tennis and fencing, while 27 athletes took part in four events in the 12th NWG.

The Hong Kong SAR delegation to the 12th National Winter Games, the nation’s biggest multi-sports winter event, is presented the Hong Kong flag.

It is the fourth time since reunification that the Hong Kong SAR has participated in both games. Sports celebrities, members of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and related government officials served on the organising committees that prepared for the Hong Kong SAR delegation’s participation in both games. The department provided secretariat support for all competition-related, administrative and logistic arrangements.
