Enter The Deep
"On the scale of the planet, birds only crawl."
Jacques-Yves Cousteau

"The endless frontier of the immediate future is not outer space but the vast space beneath the sea."
Robert S. Dietz

"If we strive to best describe and characterize the deep sea: it's dark; it's cold; it's deep; it's hungry."
Thmodore Monod

Infinite darkness. Bone-chilling cold. A boundless, silent abyss filled with strange creatures and exotic phenomena.

Welcome to The Deep.

Oceans cover about 71% of the Earth's surface area, but in terms of volume, they make-up 98% of the habitable space on the planet. Without question, the majority of life on Earth lives in the seas. Yet, for all that scientists have learned thus far, we have only just begun to scratch the surface of what the oceans have to teach us.

Hidden away in the depths, an amazing menagerie of alien creatures lives their lives in silence, far from the light of the surface. Only very recently have we developed the technology necessary to journey to this dark world, and what we have found there could not have been imagined.

The Deep invites you to discover the true "final frontier" of our planet: the deep oceans. Using stunning images and invaluable specimens, the exhibition will allow you to descend through the depths to see a side of life that exists nowhere else on Earth.

The exhibition The Deep invites you to discover this last paradise of our planet. Over 30 specimens and 60 photos, many of which are shot for the very first time, will be displayed to depict the various unfamiliar and fragile ecosystems existing in the realm. Combining the latest scientific researches with amazing colour imagery, the exhibition allows you to peer into the abyss teeming with life that is beyond our reach and imagination.

Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, the exhibition is organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in collaboration with the Paris Natural History Museum. This is also an event of Le French May.
