The Hong Kong Museum of Art was Commended for Its Sign Language Guided Tour
The Museum, together with the Legislative Council Secretariat, Radio Television Hong Kong, Ocean Park Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, was honored to be awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf in recognition of its Sign Language Guided Tour which allows the hearing impaired to access information without difficulties and to participate and integrate into the society. The recognition ceremony was held in the fifth “Signs Talents Quest” on 26 September 2010.
The guided tour service remains one of the most popular educational services in the Museum of Art. In order to serve the hearing impaired, the Museum has been providing sign language guided tours since December 2009 and a total of 54 tours have been provided. Other than introducing the art pieces in the Museum to the hearing impaired, our service also encourages their participation in art.
Moreover, the Museum is currently holding an exhibition called “Touching Art: Louvre’s Sculptures in Movement” with a view to satisfy the needs of the visually impaired. We would like to invite the visually impaired to “touch” the art pieces and hence feel the shapes, compositions and textures of the works. To coincide with the touching experience of this exhibition, ancillary facilities such as Braille captions, audio guide service and guided path are provided for visually impaired persons. What’s more, the “Touching Art Tours” is provided during the exhibition period to bring you a new way of experiencing art.
In the future, we will continue to pursue our vision of promoting a harmonious society so that everyone can share the right of art appreciation and public appreciation and enjoyment of art can hence be enhanced. |
