Josephine Siao Fong-fong was cast in this adaptation of Hector Malot's novel Without Family . Shot in snowy Hokkaido, director Bu Wancang's interpretation of the oftadapted tale about a child looking for her long-lost mother can be considered unsentimental, emphasising the heroine's strong will to survive her hardships. Last year, the Hong Kong Film Archive recovered a 16mm print from Taipei Film Archive and sent it to Italy's L’Immagine Ritrovata Film Restoration Laboratory for digital restoration. New digital and 35mm prints were then created for screening purposes.
