This is the one that started it all! The Story of Wong Fei-hung, Part I featuring the kung fu master Wong Fei-hung is the inaugural chapter of the film series with the most installments in history. While the casting of Kwan Tak-hing to play the master and Tso Tat-wah as his favorite disciple Leung Foon is none other than a stroke of genius, the actors embodying their roles and growing with them through the series in ways that greatly influenced the development of martial arts cinema, the Master's character is very different from the heroically upright demigod that would define much of the series. This print was restored by the Hong Kong Film Archive in 2002 and, like our restoration of It was a Cold Winter Night, was done at a time when we were limited in resources and experience. A set of duplication negatives was made from a loaned 16mm print and color grading was performed to generate the current print.
