The central character of Far Away is l'homme fatale, the male version of the person who capitalizes on the attractions of the opposite sex to get what he wants. In this film from the Union Film affiliate Ping An Film, Cheung Ying plays a country boy driven blindly by ambition, methodically pursuing his career goals by going through a series of devoted women, played by an all-star cast of Union Film actresses, from Pak Yin to Mui Yee to Siu Yin Fei to Yung Siu-yi. Union founder Chu Kea doubles as scriptwriter and director, fabricating an intriguing work rare for Cantonese cinema.
