Besides acting, Lau Hark-suen also sits on the director’s chair in this period epic. Lau brilliantly brings the wicked, conniving side of the legendary Warload Cho Cho to life with his signature eye roll, effectively expressing Cao's conniving nature via simple gestures. The film begins with the capture of Cho after his failed assassination attempt on Dong Zhuo. After seeing Cho abandon his post and kill all eight members of Lu Baishe’s family out of misplaced paranoia, Cho’s war advisor Chan Kwun (Sun Ma Sitsang) defects to rival warlord Lu Bu (Mak Bing-wing). However, Lu is later captured by Cho after his penchant for vices leads to a betrayal by his men. This is when the righteous Chan Kwun has had enough and finally reprimands his former lord Cho Cho in the Imperial Court. Just seeing the opera singing technique of Lau and Sun Man Si-tsang is already worth the price for any Cantonese Opera enthusiast.
