There is no praise more flattering than that which is bestowed by a director to his actors. Wu Pang lauded Lam Muimui for her acting genius: ‘No matter which facet of the character – graceful, cynical, unruly or shrewish – she gave you all. Lam is indeed a fine actress hard to come by. In Leung Foon and Lam Sai-wing, Lam plays the scheming concubine of Leung Foon’s uncle. Casting a covetous eye on the family property, she, without as much as raising a finger, intimidates the martially accomplished nephew into silence when he tries to talk some sense into her during an untimely nocturnal visit. Lam’s effortless delivery of edgy characters – most notably as a sassy siren or a spoiled-rotten kept woman – makes her a rare breed.
