Between Tears and Laughter is a bittersweet tale of a home reunited and a family reconciled by the return of a prodigal husband and father. Yang Zhiqing plays the husband who abandoned his wife (Wang Lai) and their sickly son years ago until the pangs of conscience compelled him to visit the child in the hospital. A deep paternal bond is formed. When his estranged wife refuses his attempts to reconcile, the boy steps in and patches things up. A prized character actor of MP & GI and Shaw Bros, Yang was gifted with a chameleon-like knack for playing a wide range of roles and had matured through the years to embody the persona of a loving father.
