The Revenge Battle is a showcase of Yam Bing-yee's acting chops. Her character is a complex one, having saved the life of the protagonist, the surviving son of a clan that had been wiped out by a feuding family, but raises him with harsh, iron-clad rules, especially after he falls in love - like Romeo for his Juliet - with the daughter of the hated rival. Yam first assumed the role in the 1963 premiere staging of the beloved opera by the Hing Sun Sing Opera Troupe, and had played her many times throughout the years. She is so good that "Sister Sheung" has become one of her signature characters.
