This is Yam Bing-yee's favorite film, perhaps because this is the only one in a career of over 200 films in which she gets to be the love interest of her mentor, cousin and idol Yam Kim-fai. She plays an action heroine in The Funny Thief, like The Golden Cat (1961) a hybrid of martial arts and Cantonese opera, sharing the bill with Yam (as the title character), Fung Wong-nui and Kwan Hoi-shan as part of the film's leading quartet, two young couples who must overcome dramatic odds to realize their romantic destiny.
