An exchange student (Lo Wei) goes to a rural village to find musical inspiration meets Kitty (Chung Ching), a lively village girl with a passion for singing. Years later, Kitty escapes to Hong Kong and discovers that her songs can be heard everywhere. Zhang Shankun’s low-budget musical managed to launch the careers of Chung Ching and director Wong Tin-Lam, and its music even kicked off a new golden age in Hong Kong’s recording industry. The film’s titular song “Peach Blossom River” has since become one of the composer Li Jinhui’s most famous works.
