Fung Chi-kong, with his sharp business acumen, unprecedentedly cast superstar Connie Chan Po-chu as a swashbuckling heroine. She demonstrates the kung fu skills of the northern school, and was a great box-office draw. The story of Sit Tingshan and Fan Lei-fa has had numerous film adaptations. This film is unique in its brand-new arrangement of songs, while the sounds of traditional gongs and drums are retained for the action scenes. The film opens with the wedding ceremony of Sit and Fan, and continues with the same story of divorce, Fan’s adoption of a godson, her rescue of Sit, Sit begging Fan to save his father who is besieged and the eventual breaking of siege. To satisfy Po-chu’s fans, the director added two solo songs for her. Another attraction of the film is Yu Kai who demonstrates his special skill of wielding a cudgel.
