Yan-chu (Pak Yin) is happily married and has a newborn son, Siu-ming, with Lan-sang (Cheung Woodyau). But a Japanese air raid cruelly separates her from her husband and son. After years of futile search, Lansang is convinced that his beloved wife is dead, ends up remarrying Yeuk-sin (Mui Yee), and has another son with her. Yuen plays the out of favour Siu-ming (Yuen Siu-fai), who suffers from his stepmother’s mistreatment while her own son is spoiled. A glimmer of hope finally shines through the cloud over Siuming when Yan-chu figures her husband's whereabouts… Yuen’s teary performance during his beatings makes audiences’ hearts sink and eyes well up.
