Loosely similar to Gogol's The Inspector General , this comedy stars Yam Kim-fai as a failing scholar mistaken by one town's corrupted officials to be an Imperial Inspector. The scholar plays along, but he panics when the real Imperial Inspector arrives in town. However, this particular version of the story offers one shocking final twist: The scholar and the real inspector are actually long-lost siblings! Hui Ying-sau has a memorable courting scene with co-star Yam Bing-yee as the scheming scholar's classmate, a variation of the righteous simpleton character he is best known for.
