Chan Lit-bun, who went on to become the resident director of Hong Kong Film Company, made his debut with The Azure Blood and the Golden Pin. Adapted from the novel of Or Lung-sang, this four-part series unfolds like an anthology of major martial-arts themes – revenge to even the score of an atrocious transgression, romance with a beautiful woman, a secret scroll that endows superpower, a crisis befalling the martial world, a touch of Buddhist thoughts… Chan and scriptwriter Wan Hoi-ching add new interests to each chapter of the series, introducing rising star Suet Nei in Part I, recruiting six members of the Yuen Clan for Part II, enhancing the role of Connie Chan Po-chu in Part III and returning to the Shaolin Temple in Part VI, bringing the series to a full closure.
