A romance between a cadet pilot (Lui Kay) and a flight attendant (Connie Chan Po-chu), The Young Lovers is hardly your Triump in the Skies story. The film has a gangster subplot involving diamond smuggling and kidnapping to spice things up. Between floating miles above ground and becoming embroiled in the seedy underworld, Chan is also tasked with a second role, appearing in drag as a newspaper boy at the wrong end of the social divide. The action-packed finale, choreographed by kung-fu master Lau Kar-leung, has the male Chan saving the female Chan by delivering dazzling acrobatics.
