In Confucian ideals, filial piety is a prime virtue to be held above all else; in Pu Songling’s liqu (comic song), The Story of the Wall, from which this film is adapted, it’s a dying value. Cheung is a sickly father who is neglected, abused and finally banished by his sons. Left to freeze and starve on a wall, the father is rescued by a goldsmith who, out of indignation, devises an ingenious plan to trick the covetous sons into believing that their father has a cache of gold and silver stashed away… A charming comedy featuring the comedy team of the portly Leung Sing-po and the paper-thin Tang Kei-chan as the selfish brothers.
