Documenting an important chapter in the social history of Hong Kong with voices of the everyman

“We must continue to document and remind people of what we think are important and of significant value. This is a necessary, responsible attitude towards art, towards our fellow men.”
- From a reader’s entry on the web site House News

The Choi Yuen Chuen rally has such wide implications that although it is still in progress, the community is already reacting. Pants Theatre Production interviewed the Choi Yuen Chuen residents and those involved in the incident and reproduced the oral material in the documentary theatre, Redevelopment, as part of the Community Cultural Ambassador Scheme in 2013.  It was so critically acclaimed that the group was spurred to follow up with a new drama that retells the incident. Previous archives were waded through, more interviews were conducted, and new layers were uncovered - and the result is: Once Upon a Time in Choi Yuen Chuen, a documentary theatre production that gives everyone food for thought.
