Due to overwhelming response to the performances, there are only a limited number of tickets for box seats with restricted view ($120) left available for sale at the box office of Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 10am on the day of each of the performances. Each person can purchase a maximum of two tickets per transaction on a first-come-first-served basis.

The Beauty links two legendary women in modern China: Sai Jinhua, an enigma in 19th Century China when the country was buffeted by political upheavals and crises, and Liu Xiaoqing, a contemporary legend that shines on a different stage – the entertainment world of China, who witnesses the development of the Chinese film industry.

 

Liu Xiaoqing

Liu Xiaoqing is an actress, producer, writer, and entrepreneur with a mass culture business under her operation. She is a National Class One Performer and winner of the Golden Rooster Award and the Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actress.  Her filmography includes such classics as The Little Flower, The Wilderness, Chuntao, Hibiscus Town, Burning of the Imperial Palace and Reign behind the Curtain.

 

Tian Qinxin

Drama director of the National Theatre of China, Tian Qinxin carves a niche in Chinese theatre with her fusion of contemporary artistic concepts and Eastern aesthetics, complex handling of dimensions temporal and spatial, and striking visual impact.  Some of her notable productions are The Field of Life and Death, Hurricane, The Orphan of Zhao, Student Zhao Ping, Red Rose and White Rose, Ming Dynasty and The Yellow Storm.

Running time is about 3 hours with a 15-minute intermission. Latecomers will not be admitted until the intermission or a suitable break in the programme.

Founded in September 1951, the Tianjin People's Art Theatre now boasts more than sixty years of history, with a talented cast and theatre practitioners who perform its repertory of 300 productions, spanning Chinese and Western drama of all ages and varying in length, scale and subject matter.
